(September 4, 2015) Boise, ID – EDGE BREWING COMPANY and WATKINS DISTRIBUTING have combined forces to bring Edge’s traditionally brewed ales and lagers to the people of southern and eastern Idaho. Edge currently distributes in the Boise/McCall/Mountain Home area with Stein Beer.

Watkins Distributing will carry Edge’s full line-up of 22oz bottles that includes Obligatory Double IPA, Blackwater Imperial Stout, Odelay Vienna Lager, Onomato Pale Ale, Edge Amber Ale and a seasonal rotator release. The first seasonal release that Watkins will receive will be Edge’s Oktoberfest Marzen Lager. Watkins will start with a limited number of beers on draft from Edge that will include Obligatory Double IPA, Edge Amber Ale and Edge’s Apple Cider.

“EDGE couldn’t be happier to partner with Watkins Distributing,” said Edge Sales Director Steven Koonce. “Watkins represents everything Edge does in terms of being a local, family business interested in bringing great beer to the people of Idaho. We expect great things from Watkins in helping to build our brand and spread our delicious beer around the Gem State.”

EDGE will send its first shipment of beers to Watkins by the middle of September.

Watkins Distributing, celebrating 25 years of doing business in Idaho, is owned principally by Mitch and Tony Watkins. Watkins has distribution centers in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Coeur d’Alene.

Boise Beer Brewer Injured in Edge Brewing Accident

Kerry Thomas, the head brewer at Edge Brewing Co., was burned Friday after a kettle boiled over at the company’s Boise brewery.

Thomas suffered second-degree burns to 30 percent of her body, her husband, Cory Thomas, said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. The burns extended down her right arm from her shoulder down to her foot, along with other places on her torso, he said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration got “an immediate report to come out here,” said Steve Koonce, director of sales and marketing for Edge Brewing Co. The inspector interviewed staff and the assistant brewer and took some video, but Koonce does not know how long it will take for OSHA to release findings.

Thomas is being treated at the University of Utah Burn Center, where she was listed in good condition Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“They’ll be looking and evaluating over the next 72 hours on which spots they’re going to go in and do surgery, unless they can use a skin graft. So they’re looking at surgery late this week,” said Thomas, who expects his wife to remain at the Utah hospital through the end of the month.

A GoFundMe page was established Monday for the brewer. In the first two hours it raised $1,100. It raised $13,136 by Wednesday afternoon.

Tiny tasters of beer and ample samples of pub grub circulated around Edge Brewing Co. Feb. 4, during a soft opening for the new 15-barrel brewery. Located in a gigantic warehouse at 525 N. Steelhead Way, off Emerald Street and Maple Grove Road, Edge is certainly not aiming to be a nano-brewery.

The main dining room boasts dozens of high- and low-top tables along with a shiny granite bar and rows of lighting crafted from sawed-off growlers. All around the open space, murals dot the walls and TVs flash sports and rotating tap lists.

Edge Head Brewer Kerry Caldwell, formerly of TableRock Brewpub, pulled up a seat to chat about her first six beers: Onomato Pale Ale, Commodity Wheat, Obligatory IPA, Amber the Enabler, Blackwater Imperial Stout and Belgian Tripel.
